Last year Cam started playing on a recreation Softball team in Bountiful and instantly fell in love with it. And although he wouldn't agree, it seemed to come really naturally and he got good at it fast. He started about the same time we started dating and so our Friday nights were spent at the softball field. I loved it because I have spent many hours at various field watching my dad and brothers play softball and baseball on different teams over the years, so I felt right at home. The season unfortunately ended, but we found out about a co-ed league for the fall, and as you can imagine, it didn't take long for Cam to convince all of his sibilings and their spouses along with some friends to put together a team. I, however, wasn't very easy to convince because while I had spent many hours watching this sport, my softball career ended after 1 year of t-ball and I never came out of retirement. I don't do well with the individual pressure of batting. But fortunately Cam was pretty convincing and I didn't want to miss out, so I agreed.
We had a really fun season and although we weren't what you would call professionals we ended up in second place! ...Okay so there were only 4 teams, but hey second is better than fourth right?
So here we are with spring coming again and so that means softball is starting. We have had some pre-season training and I think we might have improved from last year already. I have just recently found that I love going to the batting cages. I had actually never tried it before going a few days ago. I always thought they were just for actual baseball players to practice so they could improve their batting average and not for the untrained like me. And even though that isn't true, I felt that I had a legitimate reason to go seeing as I have joined a softball team!
Of course we play because we think it is fun, but also it is a great excuse to get out and have some great bonding time! It really has been fun being together as a family. And what better night to have it on than Monday nights...great family night activity I say!
Tonight is our first game of the season and we are hoping that our training has paid off! I guess there's only one way to find out.
The pictures at the top are from last season (they got put there when I added them and I can't seem to figure out how to change it...I guess softball isn't the only thing I need to get better at!) Hooray for second place!! Lets hope we can keep it up this year!
